Don Broco - Live Music Review

15.12.23 / DON BROCO / KK STEELMILL, WOLVERHAMPTON

Ok, so we’ve been around the block once or twice, so it’s hard to be sure… But we THINK this is the first time Hush have been to the Steelmill, owned by KK Downing founding member of Judas Priest, this venue is the definition of industrial cool. It was a pleasant surprise to find this massive, cool venue on an unassuming street in the middle of Wolverhampton. What isn’t new to us however, is the force of Don Broco!

Having followed Don Broco since very near their inception, we are huge fans, and said fandom has thus rippled through our friends and family. Certain bands weave their way into your heart, mind and lives, and DB are one of them. Having caught them in a students living room a few years back, seeing them in a large booming venue like this one is spectacular. Coming out to the anthemic “Gumshield” the crowd was screaming, jumping, pumping! Rob wearing a neck brace from hurting his neck earlier on in the tour, didn’t seem to deter him from a big energetic performance one bit -  it just seem to fit his outfit and the bands look somehow too!

Don Broco are way heavier than they get appreciated for. With their retro aesthetic and comedy bants, you forget that actually, this band is really good, not just audibly but technically. The growth from one album to the next shows their ability to explore and expand their sound whilst still keeping the unique magic that is Don Broco. Also with Rob being such an enigmatic performer, it’s easy to forget the solid vocals, and not always just “backing” vocals, coming from back of the stage, drummer Matt.

We left Wolverhampton blasting “Manchester Super Reds” absolutely energised from an amazing show. Don Broco are up there in the realms of superstars, every show they get better, every album they get louder and we will never tire of seeing them.
