Live Review - Reverend and the Makers (Acoustic)

Reverend and the Makers, Nottingham Rescue Rooms 15/12/16

We’ve seen RATM a few times now, the first being on their first ‘The State of Things’ tour and we’ve always been fans of their contemporary, poetic lyrics mixed with (dare we say it) slightly “chav-pop” style music.

Tonight we’re in for something a little bit different, The Rev has gone acoustic. The crowd in Nottingham is a mix of young and old, clearly an eclectic mix of people who enjoy different musical genres, that’s the great thing about RATM, they appeal to a wide audience. When John and Ed come out they immediately react to the intimate settings, John interacts with the crowd brilliantly and instantly everyone knows what kind of night they’re in for; a relaxed affair full of banter !

Sound wise, the songs transfer into acoustic well, John is obviously used to playng his hits acoustically, in fact we’ve seen him play acoustic after the main show on more than one occasion. Street corners are John’s usual acoustic setting, so it’s nice to see him on a real stage!

The evening is full of songs new and old, some received better than others and obviously the hits like Miss Brown, Heavy Weight Champion and Silence Is Talking are massive fan favourites, but new songs like Black Window are also winning the crowd over.

To be honest seeing The Rev acoustic was a real treat, but nothing will compare to seeing them in their full, crazy, bouncing glory!
