SPORTS TEAM RELEASE NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO FORGOING SOFT’, A JOYFUL REFLECTION OF LIFE ON TOUR, SHOT BY FRIENDS AND FANS DEBUT ALBUMDEEP DOWN HAPPYOUT ON 19 JUNE 2020

“It’s a short history of the last two years really, ending with the last show before all this happened at our local, The Nags Head. Hopefully the whole thing is a reminder of how good live music can be, that if you’re a kid who should be going to their first show about now then live music isn’t an acoustic cover on IG Live, it’s something really special.” Alex Rice, Sports Team Ahead of the release of their highly anticipated debut album Deep Down Happy on 19 June, Sports Team today share new single and video for ‘Going Soft’, reminding us about the euphoric highs of live music – albeit from a screen – filmed by friends and fans over the last year of the pandemonium of life on the road. The six-piece have built a large, fiercely loyal and fervent fanbase; coming up on the back of word of mouth live hype, drawing round the block queues to early gigs at The Five Bells and Moth Club, and celebrating a Kentish Town Forum headline at the end of last year. ‘Going Soft’ captures the essence of a band waiting to get back out there doing what they love, and what they do best.

Sports Team are a band of six singular characters, who have been described as one of the most raucous, electrifying and chaotic acts in the UK. Here’s The Thing, the first single lifted from their debut album was chosen as Greg James’ Track Of The Week, following an Annie Mac Hottest Record and BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music playlist. Their debut album Deep Down Happy, 12 scabrous vignettes about the trials and tribulations, the hopes and the dreams, of young Brits, will be released on 19 June 2020 on Island Records. A now pertinent album title, the songs on Deep Down Happy are sharply drawn pen portraits of small-town torments, inequality and ultimately escapism. Documenting modern Britain in all its messy complexity, the album is a succession of vivid snapshots of the follies, foibles and frustrations of youth. Sports Team calls to mind a loving but fractious family, bickering one minute, weeping with laughter the next. The bands album In-store tour will be moved to a later date due to the unprecedented circumstances.
