Reverend and the Makers - Live Review

Reverend and the Makers / 9th Feb 2023 / Birmingham Institute 2

Tonight we head over to one of our favourite Birmingham venues, the O2 Institute. It’s already busy when we walk in, ready to catch our first band of the night, The Ramona Flowers.

The Ramona Flowers head to the stage to a somewhat flat crowd, maybe because it’s a Wednesday, maybe because it’s February or maybe just because a Reverend and the Makers crowd is only there for one reason… To see The Rev. So they really had their work cut out tonight.

The Ramona Flowers have some catchy songs and it doesn’t take long before the crowd starts to warm up. Swaggering vocals over tight indie beats, it’s easy to see why these guys are supporting R&TM. Their new single Gotta Get Home (Remix) is out now - definitely one to check out!

The band have a cool quiet swagger, bringing some nostalgia, with lowkey pop beats and pleasing light vocals. By their last song The Ramona Flowers have done their job perfectly and everyone is ready for the main event.

Out come Reverend and the Makers, opening with long standing hit The State of Things. It’s hard to believe this came out in 2007 and every word is still as relevant today.
A Rev show is pretty much by the numbers now a days, the newer material mixed in with the old favourites. Of course the likes of Heavyweight Champion and He Said He Loved Me, are always going to hit with the crowd but it’s fair to say the new tracks Heatwave in the Cold North are equally as well received. If you’re not already a fan of Reverend and the Makers it’s unlikely you’re going to become one now, if you’re already a fan, you’re going to continue to enjoy the music and the shows that they’re putting on.
