Wildwood Kin - New Music

ANNOUNCE KIA LOVE REMIX OF
BEAUTY IN YOUR BROKENNESS’

Family acoustic-rock trio Wildwood Kin have had an incredible 2019 so far. Last month they released their self-titled second album via Silvertone Records/Sony, which garnered support including Radio 2, Sunday Brunch, The Times, Wonderland and The Sun. They played a summer of festivals including Glastonbury for a second time, and on Wednesday they kicked off their 16 date headline tour in Norwich, which includes a sold-out London Omeara this coming Monday.

They have announced a Kia Love (Freya Ridings, Tom Walker, Olly Murs) remix of their stunning single ‘Beauty In Your Brokenness’, which will be available from 22nd November on all DSPs. Plus they share the studio video of their track ‘All On Me’. The video was filmed during the recording of the album at The Chapel Studios in Lincoln, and was filmed and edited by the band’s own Beth Key.

Wildwood Kin’s recent singles have captured two sides of their second album. There’s the haunting drama of ‘Never Alone’ which was produced and co-written with Ed Harcourt, conveying a deeply personal and a message to anyone feeling as isolated as Meg Loney’s brother, who sadly committed suicide. The elegant, hymnal, Radio 2 playlisted ‘Beauty In Your Brokenness’ was inspired by the Japanese art of ‘Kintsugi’ - the idea of something becoming more beautiful for having been damaged or broken. Then there’s the warm-hearted ‘All On Me’ which is similar in spirit to ‘The Weight’ by The Band, a song about sharing the load with someone. It’s a collection that confirms their ascending status.

Completely fulfilling the band’s artistic vision, their second album is as natural as it is accomplished. The trio’s vocals harmonise effortlessly, there are shades of Simon & Garfunkel, Bear’s Den and early Fleet Foxes in the beautifully gentle melodies. Meanwhile, its lyrics address profound themes like love, loss and spirituality. But above all, there’s a spirit to the record that’s as wild and free as the West Country moors where they grew up.

Wildwood Kin are sisters Emillie Key (guitar) and Beth Key (bouzouki) and their cousin Meghan Loney. They are a band of equals with each member contributing equally. This time around they delved deeper into their sound by experimenting with a variety of co-writers across sessions in in Los Angeles, Nashville and Oxfordshire. These included Gabrielle Aplin on ‘Wake Up Sleeper’, Angelo Petraglia (Taylor Swift, Kings of Leon) on ‘Breathe’ and Alex Davies (Sigrid, Birdy) on ‘Signals’, with Ian Grimble (Bear’s Den, Catfish & The Bottlemen) on production duties.
