Vukovi - Live Review

VUKOVI / BIRMINGHAM O2 3 / 23RD OCTOBER 2021
(+ DELAIRE THE LAIR / PRESS TO MECO)

It must be great to support a band whose fans not only sell out the show, but then all get to the venue in order to see the whole show and that is exactly what Vukovi’s fans did. Hot off releasing their latest single the day before, Delaire The Liar walked out to an already full O2 Academy 3. Delaire The Liar seem to fit the bill perfect, offering something slightly different to the other two bands on the bill, but clearly appeasing the tastes of the eager crowd in attendance. Delaire certainly have an allure to them, and it is going to be very interesting to watch their progression over the coming years.

By the time that Press To Meco hit the stage, the crowd is now sufficiently warmed up and is approaching a fever pitch already. If you weren’t aware of the line-up for this show, you’d be forgiven for mistaking Press To Meco as the nights’ headliners because the crowd are giving everything for the harmonic metal trio. Press To Meco are one of those bands that when people say “they’re a tight band live” you can actually hear that tightness, though the vocal harmonies and solid riffs. Having followed the progression of Press To Meco over the last four or five years, the question on HUSH’s lips is how Press To Meco are not yet playing bigger shows, because it certainly feels like they’ve got everything needed to be the next Royal Blood or Biffy Clyro.

The noise and energy as headliners Vukovi walk onto stage is electric! The current pandemic has removed these mass group experiences from our lives and it is apparent that this crowd are making up for lost time… Filling the set with mostly tracks from their latest album, in which fans were apparently well versed, singing the contagious melodies back right into poor Janine’s face, the room was literally and physically pumping! Vukovi are a really interesting live band, with just a three piece band, yet creating a heavywall of modern rock, with an edge of electronica and experimental aspects thrown in for good measure, that just hits you.

A night to remember was had for all, us included, and we can see Vukovi following the footsteps of the likes of You Me At Six, one day smashing the charts and arena shows.
