Live Review - The Lounge Kittens

The Lounge Kittens @ Rock City Basement, Nottingham 15/10/16

Wandering to the venue on this night, we were hit by how nice Nottingham is. Coming here regularly the journey has almost become routine, proving it’s important not just to go through the motions of life but to be awake for them! There’s no telling what you’re missing!

Rock City, is a proper ROCK venue, it’s not “unpleasant” by any means, even the sticky floors add a rustic authenticity, but it’s not the most welcoming looking of places. RC is kind of grotty and utilitarian, but it’s really carved itself as a pillar in the UK music industry. You really feel part of the rock scene, just by stepping through the doors.

October 15th saw From The Jam pulling mods off the Nottingham streets and upstairs to Main Room Rock City, whilst we were downstairs in the basement with The Lounge Kittens.

Three voices, one keyboard. Three glittery jackets, one stage! The Lounge Kittens sold out the basement room, it was packed from front to back and the place was genuinely pumping, before the girls even neared the stage (thanks in part to support acoustic/comedy performer Jay Foreman).

The Lounge Kittens are alot of fun, they have so much enthusiasm it’s almost infectious. The crowd was a real mix of all different kinds of people and that’s such a pleasure to see, TLK obviously have a really broad draw, they appeal to people of all ages and all tastes. Being a lounge act this does have a slight edge of naff, but this isn’t a critique, the girls are clearly massively talented and are unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. From Download to Rock City, The Lounge Kittens are smashing this thing all over.
