SUNLINER - ‘Special Place In Hell’ Out Now via Lockjaw Records

Leeds melodic punk quartet SUNLINER are delighted to share the A-side of their latest Frank Turner-produced single, ‘Special Place In Hell’, out now via Lockjaw Records. A jaunting, riff-led track, ‘Special Place In Hell’ sees front man Jake McAlister drawing aim at the classist attitudes that surround many people’s perspective on employment and the so-called ‘social ladder’. “The song is a big catchy ‘f*ck you’ to people that believe those worse off than them are only there because they ‘don’t work hard enough’ or they ‘lack aspiration’,” says McAllister. “These people believe pulling your socks up and not buying a coffee every now and then will somehow counteract rising living costs, poor wages and overworking becoming the norm.” To celebrate the single, the band have launched a 5%, vegan, cask juice pale ale with local brewers Kirkstall Brewery titled ‘Special Place In Hell’, which the band will have on tap at their anniversary show on the 3rd of December 2021 at BOOM Leeds, with support from Darko, Adore/Repel and Chloe Hawes. Sunliner will also be supporting The Skints at their 1st February 2022 show at The Key Club, Leeds. Following up on their 2020 release ‘Structure/Average At Best’, Sunliner teamed up with renowned punk folk troubadour Frank Turner who helped to bring their latest singles to fruition producing and engineering the material. “It was absolutely amazing to work with Frank,” says McAllister. “We spent a weekend working on the songs at his studio on the coast—his producing was invaluable, and his enthusiasm is infectious!” Commenting on working with the band, Turner adds: “Working with Sunliner was a total joy—amazing players, great songs, punk rock attitude, what more could a producer ask for?” Having previously toured the world and released highly acclaimed albums as Jake & The Jellyfish, the band changed their name to reflect the natural progression of their music. Sunliner’s move away from their early folk-punk roots into heavier Against Me!-esque territory, has allowed the intricacies of their musicianship to shine through. Both new songs are high-energy, top-of-your-lungs punk rock heavy-hitters. Over the year the band have carved their foot-hold in the punk rock scene on tours with Red City Radio, supported Nothington, H2O, Dave Hause, Laura Stevenson, The Skints and played festival slots at the FEST (Florida), Punk Rock Holiday, Mighty Sounds, Bearded Theory and Kendal Calling. ‘Special Place In Hell’’ is out now via Lockjaw Records and a specially made commemorative zine is also available to order today: https://www.lockjawrecords.co.uk/sunliner-special-place-in-hell Sunliner live shows: 03/12/21 - Leeds, BOOM
