Sleeping With Sirens - Live Review

SLEEPING WITH SIRENS @ THE O2 INSTITUTE, BIRMINGHAM - 07/11/19

We hit the beautiful Birmingham O2 Institute on the dark, drab and damp Thursday night that was the 7th of November. We found refuge in the epic main room, with hosts Sleeping With Sirens.

Opening the show was English Metalcore boys Shvpes, warming up the already full to the brim crowd. Second up was Pallisades, of whom we are a fan, they played a Linkin Park cover that went down a storm, after that epic tune though, their set did seem to wane, possibly down to issues of the backing track being too loud. A great set however, by a talented band, we’re eager to see where they go from here.

The atmosphere in the room was uplifting and relaxed, everyone was genuinely having a great time, even during the anticipatory build up to SWS hitting the stage. The warmth was palpable, metaphorically and literally- the walls were dripping.

Hitting us in the face with a brand new track, Sleeping With Sirens started their set, demonstrating the truth that this new album is heavier! And boy can you notice that even more so live. We were treated to some oldies and to some goodies and even two stunning acoustic renditions, ‘Gold’ and ‘One Man Army’ both from their penultimate album ‘Gossip’, the selection Kellin tells us they change for every show. It was a truly grounding moment, where the room became quiet and we were witness to the true power and perfection of Kellin’s vocal talent. In full force the band are tight, and the new stuff really has bought them up a gear, stood in the crowd with some technical knowledge you can really appreciate the talent of the musicians on stage.

The Institute has one of the most luxurious rooms in the UK, easily. It’s got a grandeur and a dramatism that stages a live band with the perfect setting for a moment to happen- the “moment” that makes a crowd respond with a ‘wow - it’s good to be alive’, and Sleeping With Sirens gave us several of these moments… A truly wonderful night, with amazing tunes and bucket-loads of feels.

We also had words with Kellin pre-show, interview to come soon! Keep your eyes and ears peeled! xox
