September 15, 2022REAL TERMS Sign To Delta Sleep’s Sofa Boy Records Watch The Video For Liverpool Experimental Alt-Pop Band’s New Single ‘Frantically Wrong’
Liverpool experimental alt-pop trio REAL TERMS are delighted to announce that they have signed to renowned math-rock band Delta Sleep’s new label, Sofa Boy Records.
Of the signing, Delta Sleep/Sofa Boy Records’ Dave Jackson said: “We started Sofa Boy Records for this exact reason—to work with bands we love and respect. Real Terms will be the first official release and to be honest we’ve screwed it already…we’ve set our standards way too high right from the off. Expect every subsequent release from Sofa Boy records to slowly go downhill after this.”
To celebrate the news, the band are streaming new single ‘Frantically Wrong’ which is released on 7th September 2022 via all good digital service providers. The single comes with an equally erratic, discombobulating video which premiered with PROG Magazine. Directed by Chris Jenkins and Craig Sinclair, and conceived and edited by Real Terms drummer David Kelly, the visuals emphasise the unease in the song’s lyrics through shifting angles, light and perspectives.
Commenting on the track, front man John Crawford says: “‘Frantically Wrong’ stems from the lurking feeling—heavily accentuated by the pandemic—that everything feels broken, and that the institutions and systems we’ve traditionally relied on, if not necessarily trusted, are no longer fit for purpose. It reflects the dissonance between the unease I feel about the polarisation of society, and my absolute certainty about which side of it I’m on.”
Formed in 2017 following the dissolution of their previous incarnation, Vasco Da Gama, the trio’s intention with Real Terms was to take the intricate, staccato, highly rhythmic best of their old sound and transcend what they saw as the limitations of the math-rock genre, injecting their material with a dose of pop songwriting structure and melody.
The result was their well-received debut 2020 EP Housework, produced by David Berger (Outfit), which saw them marked out as ones to watch by PROG Magazine, Birthday Cake For Breakfast, The Math Rock Times, and Bido Lito Magazine, and appear on Alpha Male Tea Party’s The Long Drive Home podcast. Whilst the pandemic put paid to live plans for a brief spell, over the years they’ve shared the stage with some of the biggest names and brightest newcomers from the experimental underground scene including TTNG, Tera Melos, Delta Sleep, Gender Roles, Cleft, Holding Patterns, Standards, FES, Alpha Male Tea Party and A Burial At Sea. Now back on the road and gearing up for more extensive touring in 2023, Real Terms will be appearing at The Wave Before The Kick In The Chest… Festival in Leeds on 10th September 2022 with Delta Sleep, Gallops, Bossk, The Physics House Band and more, and will support Tricot on 18th September 2022 at Future Yard, Birkenhead.
