Letting Up Despite Great Faults- New Music

LETTING UP DESPITE GREAT FAULTS / NEW SINGLE / UPCOMING ALBUM

Austin,TX-based shoegaze favourites Letting Up Despite Great Faults are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Corners Pressed’ which is out now on all good digital service providers. The new single is the latest track to be taken from the band’s forthcoming new album, IV, which is mastered by Simon Scott from Slowdive and set for release in 2022. The album marks the band’s first new music after an 8-year-long hiatus, with lead single ‘Gemini’ released earlier this year, with the band recently announcing appearances at New Colossus and SXSW festival for 2022. Further US tour dates TBA.

Commenting on the track, front man Mike Lee says: “‘Corners Pressed’ is about how you remember your past. The same events have a way of playing out differently in the way different people remember them, and sometimes our memories have a way of carrying themselves as heavier than they really should be. Reality becomes skewed towards how we remember it, and our memories become our guide, whether they were real or not.” Letting Up Despite Great Faults was founded by Mike Lee in Los Angeles, CA. In 2006 he wrote an EP described by NPR as “beautiful, lolling music”, but it wasn’t until a few years later that he would deliver the band’s now-signature noisier, lusher soundscapes on a debut LP buzzed about all around the blogosphere, drawing praise from Pitchfork, Consequence, Gold Flake Paint, KEXP and more.

Pitchfork may have found their first single on MySpace, but Mike found his first bandmate Kent Zambrana (bass) on Craigslist. Soon after, they upped sticks and moved to Austin, TX, where they linked up with remaining members Daniel Schmidt (drums) and Annah Fisette (guitar, vocals). Now, after eight years, the band are back with a new full length titled ‘IV’—filled with dreamier soundscapes, and covering topics of growth, loss, and regret. With the album mastered by Simon Scott of Slowdive it’s hard not to label it as a shoegaze record, but from deep storytelling to catchy indie-pop melodies, they hope to show fans, both old and new, just how much they’ve grown in their little corner of the world.
