JONNY WEST OUT WITH SECOND EP - ‘THE THING ABOUT THIS IS…’

Discovered by many of us on the Covid-19 special of American Idol 2020, Jonny West graced our screens via Netflix as the idol placed 3rd in the contest. Performing week after week from his own home, doing his own set/lights and filming as well as co-ordinating with the band via video call, this was no normal year for the singing competition!  But Jonny wasn’t your average Idol either.

As cynical yet die-hard watchers of this popcorn, easy viewing show, we were so pleasantly surprised by the true and authentic talent JW bought to the show, similar to Alejandro the year before. Instantly after that initial audition, wait wow that first audition… check it out;

So, instantly after seeing this, we dug into the Jonny West archives and were pleasantly surprised to find existing music, his first EP ‘Oh.’ and a few singles. All GOLD. A few of these he performed on the show, as well as some cracking covers. This EP got us through long and aimless lockdown walks, with sanity still intact, so we truly thank JW for that. 

The news now, is that Jonny is back, with a brand new EP ‘THE THING ABOUT THIS IS…’. And, unsurprisingly this EP is fire. It’s 25 minutes 44 seconds of sensual, joyous groves.

If you could bottle love, anguish, heartbreak and spunk, then squish it into a record, this is what you’d get. With lyrics like “your love is like fire, it keeps me warm” and “damaged does as damaged can”, this speaks to us, and LOUDLY. Shit this last year or so has been so hard, emotional tunes like these just touch our broken souls in a mirroring and healing way.
