Jamie T - Live Review

JAMIE T / BIRMINGHAM O2 ACADEMY / 11th NOVEMBER 2022

South Londoner Jamie T – born Jamie Treays - had some 180 songs written in the five-and-half-years since the release of 2016’s Trick. “I was struggling to find my direction with the record for a few years, really,” he admits. Bunkered in his East London home studio, he wrote and rewrote, playing all the guitar and keyboard parts himself.
“I went home one day, and I found this track that I had recorded, pretty much fully finished. And I was really upset, because I realised that I’d spent the last six months asking other people to tell me if something was good. Then I heard this track and I just immediately knew I’d kind of found my path.” That’s how Jamie’s new album came to fruition, and because of that, this tour.

Jamie T seemed to disappear. We were there, back in 2007! We saw him at Radio 1’s Big Weekend! Even back then, as a new artist on the scene with one “known” track,he still smashed that tent to pieces. His presence and following grew and grew and his sound changed, but then Jamie disappeared.

Back now with a BANG and this new record, travelling a sold out UK Tour. Jamie T is now the thing, he is the movement, he is who everyone is suddenly aware of.

On this cold Friday night, Birmingham Academy was literally packed to wall to wall. Before Jamie even made it to stage the crowd were getting rowdy and the walls sweaty. With his humble swagger and cool energy Jamie T and his band smashed out songs, both old and new, fan favourites and lesser knowns, but all to an amazing reaction. By summer next year, Jamie T is going to absolutely massive. You wait.
