Incubus - Live Review

Incubus / Manchester O2 Apollo / 2nd October 2022

Formed in 1991 (!) Incubus have gone on to become one of the biggest bands of all time. Forming a genre that is completely their own and cannot really be defined or described as it’s a sound that evolves with every year, album and song. We were invited to catch them at the Manchester Apollo to mix up our gig life and we were so delighted with this beautiful venue, a true star of Art Deco architecture randomly placed on an industrial estate in Manchester. Unlike other O2 venues we’ve been to, the queues were dealt with very swiftly and staff were so warm, welcoming and helpful.
The room is absolutely stunning and so obviously crafted out of love, as the acoustics in the room were just magic, and with the sloping floor viewing was possible from anywhere in the room.

Incubus were one of the first “rock” bands that entered our consciousness as young ones and they have been with us every day since. This band have got a pulse. A soul. And it’s palpable. There’s nothing superficial here. Incubus invite you to swim in their depths.
Their set for us on this night was electric. And it’s said a lot, almost a cliché- but it truly was banger after banger. We’ve never witnessed a crowd sing as loud before, it was unbelievable! Many times Brandon stopped singing and let us carry on with it, the choir was louder than the sound system.

Ok, looks aren’t important. It’s what on the inside that counts. But however you’re looking at Brandon Boyd, inside or out, he’s  just so beautiful. He’s a whimsical performer, seemingly transported to another plain, he’s absolutely absorbed in the music and watching him is transfixing.

Delivering the power and passion that you’d expect from an Incubus show, they really capture the magic live. The crowd was absolutely eating up every second of this special experience and we imagine, like us, it’ll stick with them for a long time, this was one of the best shows of our lives.
