Cornwall Newcomers FACEPAINT Lament The 9-5 Grind On New Single ‘The Reaper’ / On Tour Now w/ Flowers Of Palo + More Live Dates TBA

Fresh from an appearance at Boardmasters Festival, Truro, Cornwall-based quartet Facepaint are delighted to reveal their latest single ‘The Reaper’, set for release on 25th August 2021. The band recently announced a run of August 2021 UK tour dates with friends in Cornish indie/alt-rock trio Flowers Of Palo, and will also be appearing at Great Estate Festival. ‘The Reaper’ was produced by Ross Ruthero and Matt Conybear at CUBE studios, Cornwall, and is the first in a string of brand new tracks from the band set to drop throughout the year. Commenting on the track, the band say: “’The Reaper’ started life as a GarageBand project on Arthur (Pendry, vocals)’s laptop circa 2019 and was written at a time where all of us were starting to get a real idea of what a gruelling 9-5 work life was like. ‘The Reaper’ explores the idea of being stuck in that unbreakable, relentless cycle of work.”

“There was a solid three day spell where we didn’t hear from Arthur…he wouldn’t show up to college and despite trying to contact him we’d get nothing. Eventually he came out of his bedroom, brought his laptop and showed us this new creation. He had spent the last 72 hours on a GarageBand project called ‘Beast One’ which would later be renamed ‘The Reaper’.” Graduating from Truro College in the summer of 2020, and comprising original members Elik Eddy (drums), Zach Atkins (lead guitar) and Finlay Van Heron (bass), Facepaint are the newest name to emerge from the ever-exciting college music scene in Cornwall. The quartet have focused firmly on constant musical evolution since their formation in March 2019, and have been variously labeled as psych, slacker rock, indie and prog-punk by local press and fans.

Releasing their self-titled, self-produced debut EP in early 2019, the band added guitarist and now lead vocalist Arthur Pendry to the fold for their subsequent Do It Yourself EP later that year. The record saw the group finally take their creative vision into their own hands, shooting and directing their first music videos. The addition of the fourth member brought much-needed change to the table, and the band went on to release 2020 EP BOMB and standalone single ‘In My Hands’, seeing major evolution with their sound and songwriting style. The Truro slacker punks already boast over 50k+ streams on Spotify, and have succeeded in making their mark on the South-West live circuit despite the challenges of COVID. With a reputation for live shows that are consistently chaotic, intense and brimming with the spirit of the 80s punk scene, the four piece have already performed alongside Mother Vulture, The Rezner, Skinny Milk, School Disco and more, at several sold out shows across the county.
