CLT DRP - Live Review / Take 2
February 3, 2022CLT DRP / THE HAIRY DOG, DERBY / 2.2.22
I’m just a girl, stood in front of a band, thinking…wow.
So we saw CLT DRP again! And to explain why we have seen this band three times in a row… this review is gonna play out differently to our usual features…
I found CLT DRP via the release of their first album “Without The Eyes” early 2020, during many lengthy lockdown walks, having read various feminist books and listened to ALL of the feminist podcasts available I was running out of inspiring content to keep me inspired and angry at the patriarchy… CLT DRP were on a Riot Girl type thread that I followed down a Spotify hole, and ”Speak to My” stopped me dead in my tracks. Fuuuuuuuck.
SPEAK TO MY FAT. SPEAK TO MY KNEES.
SPEAK TO MY PUSSY TELL ME. WHAT DO YOU SEE?
First few lines in, my mind was blown. Lyrics are always the first thing to hit me with a new song, I hear the words, then the voice and then finally, the music around it. So when I noticed the crazy fucking noises going on around these hard hitting vocals, I was in love. I felt like I was (walking to visit my grandparents haha…) in the middle of a War of the World-esq female empowered apocalypse… and I liked it.
After bingeing that shit for a solid year and a half, and EVERYONE that knows me (including my Dad) having been made to listen to them… I finally got chance to see CLT DRP live and it did not disappoint. Having this gig lined up, I approached the band about doing some portraits before the show (Hi btw, I’m Kimberley the sites main photog *waves*) and was met with a lovely warm response. Upon meeting my now favourite band, I was surprised by just how warm, fun and lovely they were! So funny how you expect powerful music such as this to come from stoic, serious, intense people, honestly, I was nervous. Now having shot three shows, done portraits twice and interviewed (coming up soon, keep your eyes peeled) once, I can definitively say you couldn’t meet three nicer people, or more talented and inspired musicians.
This show in Derby was the best yet. The sound was on point, and fuelled I think by the epic sound, big stage and eager crowd, CLT DRP really put on a show. Mixing familiar tunes up a bit and playing a few newer tracks, their set never gets old.
Supported by the wonderfully outrageous Arch Femmesis and a-tota-so, who played despite being down a vocalist, it was another amazing night hosted by the ever lovely, rockin’ and gracious CLT DRP.
