NEWS FROM BABY TEETH!

‘Look Like Death’ is the brand new single from London-based grunge-fuelled five piece BABYTEETH. The track offers a sarcastic, guttural commentary on the pressures people, especially women, face to look a certain way. Lead singer Camilla Roholm explains: “This song is about the tragedy of people who starve themselves to be thin or are constantly in a weird daily food battle with themselves, feeling all kinds of guilt. It’s a serious issue but we wrote the song in an upbeat, nursery rhyme fashion to really highlight the ridiculousness of it all, and even poking fun at our own attitudes. It seems like everyone wants to look like death”

In-keeping with BABYTEETH’s usual DIY approach, the accompanying video was shot in a studio in north London in just 6 hours, with concept, direction and editing executed by members of the band. Further dissecting the inspiration behind the video, Camilla explains: “It’s a farcical little comedy about perfection vs ‘the real’. The song is a playful look at the pressures we face to look perfect, so we felt it was fitting that the video captured a similar vibe. Using the idea of the perfect woman with a nod to retro 80’s and 90’s teen movies, it’s a look at what lurks beneath. Perfection vs the real, Instagram vs reality, plastic prom queen vs puddle of snot.”

“People have a tendency to take themselves too seriously. If you plaster on the smile and suck in your stomach long enough, you’ll eventually lose it. The balloon will pop. This video is a celebration being able to laugh at yourself.”

‘Look Like Death’ follows on from the success of Babyteeth’s previous single ‘Cut It’, which received strong support from specialist radio including BBC Radio 1 and Kerrang!, and was released alongside the band’s sold-out debut London headline-show, at The Black Heart in Camden.
