Live Review - Blood Youth

Blood Youth and ZOAX @ The Asylum 2, Birmingham 07/10/2016

Anytime you enter a venue like The Asylum in Birmingham you always run the chance of happening upon a band who are on the verge of braking out, a band that are putting in the leg work and playing shows wherever they can get them. Very rarely do you get two bands on the same bill that fit that description.

We’ve been fans of ZOAX for a long time, and over the years we’ve made no apology in wanting to tell everyone to check them out. Front-man Adam holds a crowd in the palm of his hands like a man who has been performing for twenty-five years, he can interact with those in the audience, getting up close and personal, without being invasive and aggressive. In a short space of time ZOAX have created a unique sound, it is delicately layered, with both heavy and light tonnes perfectly balancing themselves together.

Watching bands live is the best way to discover new music, some bands that on record you wouldn’t necessarily like can burrow into your heart with their stage performance, after feeling you music you will start to listen and appreciate that also. We found this the case with Zoax (the first time we saw them) and tonight also with Blood Youth.

On the flip side of ZOAX are Blood Youth, who bring an instant avalanche of sound, they certainly love to drop a bit of bass guitar. The journey to this point has probably been a little harder for Blood Youth, with line-up change across the years, but they are now finally getting where they deserve to be. It sometimes feel a little rushed when certain bands get a headline tour, but Blood Youth are certainly ready to be headlining shows.

It feels like both ZOAX and Blood Youth are just one big tour away from really grabbing the attention of the masses, and bringing them to the larger sizes of audience that they deserve. Both bands have great sounding records, as well as the ability to follow it up in a live environment, and the best part is, both bands are so different! A smart line up for an epic night.
