Ones To Watch - Rebellion Festival 2017

Ones To Watch - Rebellion Festival, Blackpool 2017

If you got down to the Winter Gardens in Blackpool at the start of August, you are sure to come across mohawks, liberty spikes, leather and denim because Rebellion Festival is in town. Running from Thursday 3rd to Sunday 6th August, here are GenerationHUSH’s bands to watch.

Thursday

Bad Religion - Last year’s Thursday night headliner were The Descendents, and this years headliner is possibly one of the only bands who could match that energy and legendary status. Bad Religion are one of the godfathers of Hardcore, and you can guarantee that the whole room will be circle pitting for tracks like ‘American Jesus’.

Pears - We just missed Pears last year, but there is no chance we’ll be missing them next time round. The Louisiana foursome haven’t exactly messed around in their career, forming in 2014 and playing the main stage for a second consecutive year.

Teenage Bottlerocket - Having just returned to Fat Wreck Chords (yes, another Fat Wreck band), now is the time to re-discover Teenage Bottlerocket and their new album ‘Stealing The Covers’. Bottlerocket bring the stylings of the Ramones and Misfits into the modern era, creating a classic sound, with pop culture undertones.

The Jellycats - It has been a while since GenerationHUSH saw The Jellycats live, but one thing they guarantee is a good old fashioned Ska party. Playing the Pavillion Stage at 7.30, make sure you head over to let your hair down and have a good time.

Friday

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes - The best live band in the world right now, don’t miss The Rattlesnakes because it will be the set of the weekend.

Petrol Girls - One band that are going to scream and shout at Rebellion are Petrol Girls, expect a set full of female empowerment, this will sure to be a set that will go down in Rebellion history. Petrol Girls will want to get their message across, and will make sure people listen.

Maid Of Ace - We saw Maid Of Ace at last years Rebellion on the outside stage, and they smashed it, this year they are back inside rocking the Casbah (Stage).

Strange Bones - A homecoming show for Strange Bones, the Blackpool band are here to fight the system, bringing with them the original message of 70’s punk, a rebellion against authority. If they get the crowd the deserve, Strange Bones could easily pack out the Rebellion Introducing stage.

Saturday

Sham 69 - Saturday is when the UK legends come out and play, and this year see’s Sham 69 grace the Empress Ballroom to close off the days proceedings. With a forty year (minus the breaks) career, this will be a set full of classic tracks like ‘Angels With Dirty Faces’ and ‘Hurry Up Harry’.

Hands Of Gretel - A band who have been gaining a lot of positive attention, Hands Of Gretel have graduated from Rebellion Introducing stage last year, to Main Stage this year and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they brought all those fans and more from last year into the Empress Ballroom, and this year they have a full album to bring with them.

Louise Distras - We caught up with Louise at Slam Dunk Festival, and already being fans of her music, she drew us in with her intelligence, passion and infection personality. Louise Distras has been called a political artist, but in reality she just writes the truth about living in a mining town with unemployment, women’s equality and those issue that need to be brought to the forefront of society.

Louise Distras - As above, but with less full band and more acoustic goodness.

Sunday

The Ramonas - One of Rebellion’s favourite bands, The Ramonas bring with them a bunch of classic Ramones track with possibly a few of their own thrown in for good measure. The Ramonas set is always a highlight of Rebellion, and at least this year you don’t have to try and stay up until 1.00 on a Friday night to catch them.

The Franklys - A band GenerationHUSH have heard good things about, but have yet to actually catch live. We don’t really know what to expect, but we are taking a chance on something special from the Franklys.

Millie Mander & The Shut-Up - Rebellion Festival is a great festival for discovering new bands, and promoting up and coming talent so we have confidence in Millie Manders and her band to close the Rebellion Introducing stage in style. If we’ve really got to go home from Rebellion Festival let’s go home with a party.
