October Drift - Live Review

October Drift @ Dead Wax, Digbeth - 8th Feb 2020

So we usually write our pieces as a collective, the plural pronoun of we, the Hush Hive if you will. But for this intro I need to speak honestly & personally…

I hate gigs. I hate gig venues. I dislike other people.

The rooms are hot, with too many people crammed in. It’s loud, the floors are sticky and the loos never have any toilet roll. I hate to be touched, please just stay away from me. Yes my hair is long, don’t touch it. I’m 5’2, so also, don’t stand in-front of me (or too close behind me). I’m a crazy mess of anxiety, various aliments and phobias.

As soon as the band start to play however, all of these things immediately fade away. The crowd becomes your party and the band, your host. And oh boy! Were October Drift a good host.

Being already renowned on the UK’s small venue circuit, for an electric live show, there seems to be a buzz around this band. October Drift filled this cool quirky room at Dead Wax to capacity, and from the very first song, the room was quite literally both; jumping and pumping!

Music is transcendent. It moves us, it changes us, and with their unique, original and authentic sound, October Drift seem to really have tapped their way into this crowds hearts, they were living and loving every moment of every song. October Drift play with the most perfect balance of harmonies and feedback, the songs are anthemic and inspiring yet, quiet and somewhat reserved. We go to a lot of gigs for Hush, and it’s very rare that we see a room so involved, from the very front to the very back.

With their album ‘Forever Whatever’ only having been released on the 24th January, there wasn’t one song the crowd didn’t seem to know. With a following like this, the future looks bright for October Drift.
