Live Review - Slaves

Slaves @ Rock City, Nottingham 24/11/16

The crowd on this night were for the most part all under 20 years old, it was like an American high school, present we had all the different sects- the goths, the trendies, the troublemakers… This mixture of peoples making up the nights crowd were all there, eager and waiting for one reason. Slaves.

Before Slaves took to the stage however, we were treated to two interesting support bands, but we only caught the later enough to comment. Life are a really different kind of band, they fit perfectly on the Slaves bill, but upon any other bands the crowd would chorus “WTF!” They’re so cheeky and spunky and overly confident, their sound is almost undefinable but along the lines of old school punk rock with hints of ska.

Slaves hit the stage and announce “Hello. We are Slaves. We are from Kent. And we will be your entertainment for the evening.” Won us over right there! With epic song after song Slaves smashed this show, the crowd were completely in and giving it everything from the very first second. Beers thrown, inhibitions lowered, troubles forgotten, Slaves provide everything a rock show should.

With their modern punk sound Slaves are a breath of fresh air in the UK music scene, and with this being a duo you’re eternally surprised about the amount of sound these guys create.
