Jinjer - Live Review

Jinjer @ The Flapper, Birmingham- 26/11/17

It was a cold Sunday night in Birmingham when we hit one of our favourite local haunts, The Flapper, hidden alongside the canal is a cool little boathouse style bar, with a rock dungeon below! We headed in to the room, having already met Eugene and Tatiana backstage, for our interview (coming soon!), walking in to this packed and sweaty room overwhelmed us with glee for this dedicated band.

Having come all the way from Ukraine, filling a room in the belly of the midlands is quite a feat. Before the guys even hit the stage the anticipation in the room is palpable, squeezed in wall to wall there’s barely room to breathe, and then the beginning of an hour solid moshing sesh starts! The crowd were loving it! Here at Hush we go to ALOT of gigs, like more a year than most people probably will in their lives, and even by our standards, this show was crazy! The passion, the dedication, Jinjer smashed it, and the crowd loved every second.

The band sounds thick, tight and heavy with vocals layered in a mix of sultry harmonies and perfectly honed demonic growls. There are a few bands that mix smooth vocals with heavy screams but we’ve never before witnessed it with this tenacity or finesse. Jinjer have a sound that is hard to relate to other bands, but they’ve managed to find and cement a real solid fanbase, and it’s obvious why. The power this band hits you with is otherworldly, if we had to give it a genre, we’d call it “Intense Metal Screamo Pop” - does what it says on the tin.
