Live Review - Mallory Knox

Mallory Knox and Lonely The Brave @ The Institute, Birmingham 24/03/17

After another lengthy queuing sesh, this seems to be the routine at gigs now, (venues if you need to do extra security checks please allow time for them between doors and the first band! Arghh!) we just make it in time to catch the second half of Fatherson’s set.

Another support band with no photos, but this was a support with support! The room (despite the queues outside still) was heaving, and everyone was engaged with this young and enticing band on stage. Fatherson deliver heartfelt indie rock with tenacity and vigour, the crowd ate them up. Catching a band live can really inspire you, and they’ve definitely convinced us that these guys are worth a listen. Connecting with an audience effortlessly these guys were wonderful.

Lonely The Brave seem to have a slight edge of Marmite among some… You either love them or hate them. But we found them to be completely captivating, goose-bump inducing, original and humble. The refreshing thing about LTB is how the “frontman”, vocalist of the band, David, stands towards the back of the stage. He and this band, are not here to put on a show, they are here to tell us stories with their music, and they perform these with a conviction that is very rarely witnessed. We were worried the nights young crowd were not giving these guys the attention and credit due, as they stood silently watching, until they hit into single The Blue, The Green and the audience in entirety sang along word for word.

Mallory Knox have been slugging away in the UK Rock scene for some years now. They have developed a diverse back catalogue that is properly meaty and tasty.  The fan base is incomparable to any other, dedicated, obsessed, living breathing MK. These elements make for an amazing live show, especially when adding to this the band members enigmatic performance, chucking everything that they have at the stage. The setlist seemed to feature favourite after favourite as the crowd screamed and danced along. Mallory Knox really know how to put on a show, live you feel the music and it moves you. They have a rock sound and a flawless performance that anyone can enjoy and everyone should. We see this being Mallory Knox’s year, this album is going to explode.
